LFW SS18 Highlights: Simon Mo
Born in Taiwan, raised in Malaysia, Simon Mo’s unique background has allowed him to view womenswear fashion world with a unique perspective. He graduated with a BA womenswear from Central Saint Martins, London in 2012.
Named ‘Seas the Day’, Simon described his inspiration, saying, “I was inspired by the marine world. I love diving, but I’ve seen a lot of pollution and it’s killing our sea creatures. It’s such a terrible thing: all the fish and turtles being killed by plastic, so nowadays a lot of countries are banning the use of single time plastics, like forks and straws. It seems far away from fashion, but this is my vision. We all love the ocean, but we live in the city, so we ignore our daily behaviour and how it effects the whole world.”
The muted tones of blues, greens and navy kept the marine theme running throughout. The slicked back hair had bright bits of fabric braided into the locks. The pink and blue smokey eyes set off the more neutral colour palette perfectly.
“Fashion Scout is a good environment for young designers or new designer brands to start up. We have such a good show director and hair and make-up team to help assist the designer in accomplishing a complete collection.”
Interesting head pieces including oversized hats, sometimes held by the models like a clutch bag, added to the chic aesthetic. Pinstripe dresses, navy sequins and cape jackets were just some of the looks that made their way down the catwalk, making this a very wearable collection.
